Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services (Vista Del Mar) has cared for Los Angeles’ most vulnerable children for over 110 years, providing a range of exceptional programs in education, mental health, autism, adoption, residential care, prevention, and early intervention for children and families. When Angel City FC (ACFC) was formed in Los Angeles in July 2021 they made it their mission to “make an impact on and off the field”. The ACFC mission and values align so closely with Vista Del Mar’s that the two organizations have formed a collaborative partnership that will enable ACFC to build their team’s practice facility on Vista Del Mar’s 18-acre campus.
The ACFC Training Building, an addition to Vista Del Mar’s existing Myer Gensburg Gymnasium, will be designed by AUX Architecture and is a state-of-the-art gym and training facility for the Team that will also house the coaches and trainer’s administrative offices. It will be located near the intersection of Manning Avenue and Edith Street, on the northeast side the campus. The project enables Vista Del Mar to make improvements to three additional buildings on campus including the Taper Dormitory, the Konheim Recreation Center, and the Reiss Davis Library.
The facility will operate during daytime hours and will be used for team practices and training only; no stadium lighting will be installed or used. Available parking and current square footage of developed space on campus will remain the same. The building’s impact on the neighboring community will be minimal.
The ACFC Training Building is designed to feel like a natural extension of the campus and will have an aesthetic connection to the family of existing buildings that are already there. It will utilize a similar material palette to the recently completed Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center. When the project is complete, the campus will be fully positioned to positively impact all who use the campus and improve the lives of thousands of kids and families. New site work and landscape throughout the campus will create connective paths to each building on campus and will offer new gardens and outdoor gathering places for both Vista Del Mar and the Team. The project is planned to be constructed in three components: 1. the ACFC Training Pitch, 2. the improvements to Vista Del Mar’s existing buildings, and 3. the ACFC Training Building.
